Microsoft has acquired Xandr to quicken the delivery of digital advertising and retail media solutions. Xandr provides premium advertising solutions to its partner. By integrating Microsoft's knowledge of its audience, technology, and global advertising clientele with Xandr's expansive, data-driven advertising platforms, Microsoft may speed up the delivery of digital advertising solutions for the open web. The name Xandr has derived from its former owner, AT&T, cofounder Alexander Graham Bell.

Xandr History

In 2018, AT&T took full control of Appnexus and changed its name to Xandr. The inaugural AT&T Relevance Conference took place in Santa Barbara, California, on September 25, 2018, and that day, Xandr was unveiled. The name was chosen in homage to the man who founded its parent company, AT&T. In June 2019, Xandr revamped its AppNexus DSP and unveiled Xandr Invest to act as its principal ad-buying center. It also introduced its digital ad marketplace named Dubbed Community. 

In 2020, Warner Media and Xandr have joined hands to provide a more compelling value proposition for agencies, advertisers, and publishers. Since its inception, Xandr respects consumer privacy preferences and provides unique advertising solutions. Microsoft completed the acquisition of Xandr to enhance its digital advertising solutions and retail media capabilities. 

Microsoft Ownership of Xandr

On June 6, 2022, Microsoft successfully bought Xandr for about $1 billion USD, bolstering its retail media and advertising business. Mike Welch is the executive vice president and general manager of Xandr. It will accelerate Microsoft's digital advertising. The global advertising customer base of Microsoft will be strengthened after this acquisition. Microsoft group understands web experiences and the open web better than anyone else. Therefore, this partnership will accelerate the delivery of premium advertising products.
